A defining moment in my life was when my husband passed away at 40 years old. I was 32 at the time. Although there were many days of pain and struggle, I knew it was important to keep moving forward. I had a big Why—our little 2-year-old son.
My husband and I had some investments and some life insurance, so I wasn’t broke but there wasn’t much money coming in either. I felt a huge responsibility to manage our finances well and get a handle on making the numbers work and practicing good financial habits.
This major life event taught me so much about taking control of my financial life. I read many personal finance books and put my learning into action. I became the CFO for a nonprofit and spent many gratifying years sharpening my financial skills in that world. Because I stayed committed and focused on my financial health, I’m now a wealthy woman.
Creating Money Sense for Life has enabled me to combine my professional and personal experiences over the past 23 years to help women reach their financial potential.
It's also a direct result of people who have helped me along the way, either directly or indirectly. I’ve learned valuable knowledge over the years from financial experts and believe in ongoing growth and expansion.
We should share our strengths with the world and help others. I’ve combined my years of financial and business experience with my coaching expertise to help others.
I also believe that financial health is not about reaching a certain number. Our country puts too much emphasis on reaching millionaire status. The number in your bank account doesn’t define you. My net wealth doesn’t define me, but it is a good picture of how I have shown up in my life to take care of my finances and my financial health.
I believe in embracing financial growth and expansion and practicing healthy money habits. It’s a gift to ourselves to stay committed to our financial health and wellness throughout our life.
It’s an honor when someone chooses me as their financial coach to support them on their financial journey. I take that privilege seriously. I work with many women, including business owners, sales and management executives, and women who have recently experienced a big life transition like divorce or death of a loved one.
This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes, “The greatest success we’ll know is helping others succeed and grow.” - Gregory Scott Reid
